Western Culture has a number of underlying beliefs. Often they are so ingrained in our thinking that we don’t even acknowledge them as beliefs. They are unassailable truisms; self evident common sense. They are often expressed in slogans or catchphrases – they are the catchphrases of our culture.
In this series we examine three of these catchphrases and attempt to uncover the underlying beliefs. We explore where they have come from, what we can affirm in them, and how the gospel engages with them.
- Religious beliefs should be kept private
- You’ve got to be true to yourself
- I’m free to do what I want
